Pork Halves and Quarters Available for January 2026:
Our family is once again raising custom-butchered hogs at our farm in Dover, PA. The hogs primarily feed on a non-GMO grain diet and have full access to pasture during the growing season. They have an area of several trees so they also browse on and are fed hickory nuts, acorns, and drops from our fruit trees. This year, all are Berkshire/Duroc cross, heritage breeds known for excellent foraging and flavor.
FAQ’s:
Cost: A half is approximately 70 pounds of meat and a quarter 35 pounds. 2023 prices with butcher fees (cutting, freezer wrap, smoking, etc.) came to approximately $7.95/pound.
What typically works best is to pay me for the pork and butchering fees when I deliver the meat to you or, if you prefer, pick it up at the butcher.
Timing: I plan to take the hogs to the butcher in late December and expect to have the finished product to deliver to you in January.
Butcher: We love Hughes Meats in East Berlin, PA. After I drop off the pigs, you will talk to the butcher and let them know how you would like your half: how thick you would like your pork chops; full hams or ham slices; size of tenderloin and roasts; what kind of sausage you would like (they do a great job with the sausages, try out several), bacon, scrapple, etc.
The butchering fees are dependent on how much you have smoked and if you choose to have the meat vacuum sealed (more expensive) or freezer wrapped. The freezer wrapped meat will last 6 months to 1 year in your freezer, maintained properly. The vacuum sealed meat will last longer.

How much meat? A 90 pound hanging weight half will produce approximately 70 pounds of meat. The amount of space you would need in your freezer is 2 to 3 shelves in a side-by-side refrigerator/freezer. {Expect about 35 pounds in a Quarter}
Typical Half Hog Pork Cuts {Halve this amount if you are interested in a Quarter}
1 lb. tenderloin
12-14 lbs. of pork chops
1-2 packages of spare ribs or 3.5 lbs. total
3 shoulder roasts or steaks (12 lbs. total)
2 hocks/shank
6-10 lbs. ground pork and/or sausage
1 ham or multiple ham slices (15-18 lbs. total)
8-10 lbs. bacon
